In this guide, you’ll learn what store policies are and how to manage them in the Commert Admin and on your storefront.

What’s a Store Policy?

A store policy is the legal or operational content customers see on your storefront — for example, how you handle privacy, terms of service, refunds, and shipping. When your store is created, Commert automatically adds three default policies:
  • Privacy — how you collect and use customer data
  • Terms — your terms of service
  • Refund — how refunds work
These defaults come with starter content you can edit to match your business. You can also add a Shipping policy manually. Shipping is not created by default; once you add it and set it as active, it appears on the storefront (including a Shipping & Returns section on product pages). Each policy has:
  • Type — Privacy, Terms, Refund, or Shipping
  • Content — the markdown content shown to customers
  • Active — whether the policy is published as a storefront page
  • Effective Date — when the policy takes effect

View Policies

To view policies in your store, go to Settings → Policies. Here, you can see a list of all policies for your store, including their type, whether they are active, and their effective date. Commert adds the Privacy, Terms, and Refund policies to your store by default. You can edit them, or create a Shipping policy when you’re ready. Policies list

Create a Shipping Policy

Privacy, Terms, and Refund are created for you. The only policy you can create from the admin is Shipping. To create a shipping policy:
  1. Go to Settings → Policies.
  2. Click the Create button in the main section’s header.
  3. In the form that opens:
    • Type: Shipping is selected (it’s the only type you can create).
    • Effective Date: Choose when the policy takes effect.
    • Active: Turn this on to publish the policy as a page on the storefront.
    • Content: Write your shipping policy in markdown. Use the editor toolbar to format headings, lists, and links, or switch to Preview to review how it will look.
  4. Once done, click the Save button.
Create shipping policy form After you save an active shipping policy, customers can open it from the storefront footer, and a Shipping & Returns section appears on product pages.

Add or Remove a Policy from the Storefront

Setting a policy as active publishes it as a storefront page. You can turn this on or off without deleting the policy. To change whether a policy is shown on the storefront:
  1. Go to Settings → Policies.
  2. Find the policy and click the icon in its row.
  3. Choose Add as store page to publish it, or Remove from store to unpublish it.
You can also toggle Active when editing a policy.
Inactive policies are hidden from storefront pages. Footer links to those pages may still appear, but the page itself will not load until the policy is active again.

Where Policies Appear on the Storefront

Active policies are shown to customers in these places: The storefront footer includes a Policies section with links to Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, Refund Policy, and Shipping Policy. Storefront footer policies

Policy pages

Each active policy has its own page on the storefront:
  • Privacy → /privacy-policy
  • Terms → /terms-of-service
  • Refund → /refund-policy
  • Shipping → /shipping-policy (only if you created an active shipping policy)

Product pages (shipping only)

If you have added an active shipping policy, product pages show a Shipping & Returns section with that policy’s content. Customers can expand it to read your shipping details without leaving the product page. Without a shipping policy, product pages only show Product Information. Shipping and Returns on a product page
